Celebrating Graduating Seniors

Graduation is quickly approaching! Don’t forget to take the opportunity to celebrate the graduating seniors on your team. Whether this was their first NICA season or sixth, your team had a major impact on their high school experience. Make sure you tell them how much they impacted the team, too!

In the spirit of graduation, join us in celebrating Texas senior Ethan Mikolaycik! A member of the Lake Travis team and a lover of trail building and maintenance, he was selected as the Spring 2025 winner of the NICA x Rudy Project Senior Send Off because of the many hours he’s dedicated to improving his local trail systems. Read more about his experience with NICA and his future plans here:

Q1: What has made your NICA experience, and especially your senior season, special?

Throughout my NICA experience, I developed mental toughness and athletic perseverance. Whether navigating technical trails, tackling steep climbs, or recovering from mechanical setbacks, I approached challenges with determination and focus. This dedication has translated to several years of finishing top 10 in the state. Being a leader on the Lake Travis Mountain Bike Team, at school, and in my community has allowed me to set an example for younger riders. The skills I’ve gained being a part of NICA have helped with robotics and engineering.

Q2: How will you continue to engage with cycling post-graduation?

Giving back to the community is important to me, so I plan to help maintain trails during my time at Texas A&M University. My goal is to join their cycling team and continue to ride with friends and family.

Q3: How did winning the Senior Send Off impact your senior season?

It was nice to be recognized and rewarded for my dedication, leadership, and perseverance as both a student and athlete. The Rudy Project glasses and helmet are a nice addition to my Lake Travis Mountain Bike uniform. They not only look good, but they’re really comfortable and keep me safe.

Q4: What would you like to say to all your coaches, volunteers, and race staff as a farewell?

I want to express my gratitude to coaches, volunteers, and race staff for constantly looking for ways to go above and beyond for the team. You are always willing to share your advice and expertise, motivating us to work on our weaknesses, while being encouraging and complimenting us on our strengths. You have made a positive impact in my life both on and off the trail. Words cannot express how thankful I am.
