Have you ever hit the point in a sport or activity (or perhaps even work!) where you find yourself doing the work just to check it off the list? Experiencing this issue for prolonged periods can often lead to a condition commonly known as burnout. Burnout is the long-term loss of enjoyment of an activity and something coaches want to prevent in their athletes. We want the next generation of riders to enjoy our sport as much as we do! So how can we prevent burnout in our athletes and ourselves?
Join us as we explore this topic from a different perspective. We’re approaching burnout with an eye toward motor behavior and learning, and philosophy. Discover the difference between work and play, as well as the various types of work, and how they relate to burnout. This perspective offers new insights and prevention strategies we can utilize while working with our athletes, using simple adjustments to our coaching behaviors.
