Be a catalyst for expanding bike infrastructure

Teen Trail Corps work can take on many forms. It doesn’t always have to include dirt, trails and tools. Teen Trail Corps work is also sharing our voices. To increase trail access across the country, we must also increase our advocacy efforts. PeopleForBikes, a NICA community partner, has launched the Great Bike Infrastructure Project to accelerate the construction of safe, fun, connected places to ride, reduce barriers to access, and welcome more people to the joys of biking.

It’s not surprising, Temps are rising! Are you prepared?

With the start of the fall racing season comes rising temperatures, leading us all to look for ways to stay cool and safe out on the trails. Higher temps introduce a range of factors teams and coaches must consider, from hydration and preventing heat-related injury to heat acclimation.

How e-bikes are changing the coaching landscape

“Without my e-bike, there is no way I could coach at every practice. Having an e-bike allows me to lead rides when other coaches aren’t familiar with trail systems, or sweep when I want to spend time coaching the newer kids. And, outside of NICA, I ride with my husband and a women’s group weekly. It makes it much more enjoyable to ride multiple times each week.”

Tim’s Training TIps: Plan your season like a pro

You probably know a team that functions like a well-oiled machine. They get team rides started on time and without any drama while also somehow incorporating training components, skill development and team building…all in the same ride!
These teams inspire dreams of being a part of a group that functions seamlessly at such a high level, though we may not know exactly how to make it happen. The secret is surprisingly simple: focus on meaningful planning.

Shoulder-season Round-up

It’s that time of year when the forecast calls for 80 degrees…with a 70% chance of snow flurries. Mother nature loves to keep us on our toes, that’s for sure. But how is anyone supposed to dress for a ride or for NICA practice when even our most trusted weather apps don’t know what’s going on?!

Coeus: Connecting Training Zones & Injury Prevention

As coaches, we know crashes are inevitable. Part of our duty is to try and mitigate risk as much as possible. We can approach this by adequately teaching athletes proper skills, selecting appropriate trails for practice sessions, and educating riders on the inherent risk of the sport. While there are many factors that contribute to a crash, there’s one common theme across the research: fatigue. When athletes are fatigued they are much more likely to make mistakes that lead to injuries. Learn how to prevent injury with the use of training zones in your practice.
